Creating Custom Menus

WordPress’s custom menus feature allows you to have total control of the navigation menu displayed on your website. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to add category links to a menu, as well as drop-down menus, so I’ve created this quick video demonstration of how to create a custom menu.  You can create your own menu under Appearance » Menus

Very clear, thank you. There’s something else which I would need advice for: I noticed in the navigation menu that there’s a “blog” entry. This is especially something I want to do to make the clear distinction between the other entries (articles posted under categories in your example). So that readers can browse the blog part without being lost. Could you please explain a little bit and how this displays in the end? Thanks in advance.

The blog link displayed in the video is just a Page, which is dedicated to displaying all blog entries. This can be done (after creating the page) under Settings >> Reading

Thanks a lot for this explanation Sawyer. This brings a second question: how do I manage to display only selected categories on the front page (i.e. categories a, b,c out of categories a,b,c,d,e,f,g et cetera?
This would really help. Thanks in advance

There is an option in the theme options panel of Shaken Grid that allows you to specify a single category to display on the frontpage. I would recommend assigning all posts you want displayed on the frontpage to a specific category, like “Featured”, and then setting that as the option.
