It’s been almost one year since the premium version of Shaken Grid was released to the public. It has evolved over time through design as well as functionality, and 2.0 is the biggest evolution so far. Below are some of the major additions and changes made in Version 2.0. For a full list of changes, view the changelog. To see the changes before updating or purchasing, check out the theme demo.

Smartphone Optimized

This is our first theme that utilizes a responsive design, meaning it is now fully optimized for smartphones. We plan on making our other themes responsive over time, and all future themes will be as well. Unlike some websites with mobile versions, this theme will not hide any of your content. Instead, it adjusts the design to place a heavier emphasis on the most important sections, while still displaying all of your site content (like the sidebar).

Redesigned Single Post Page

One thing that we have been wanting to do for awhile is to give the single post pages a fresher look. In Version 2.0 we have done exactly that. We’ve move the post content and comments  section inside of the same box as the featured images and videos and made some other minor design changes. We’re a lot happier with this design and hope you are as well.

Social Bartender Support

Version 2.0 now comes with Social Bartender support built-in. This means you can install the Social Bartender plugin and add your own social network links to the header without touching any code.

Updating Your Theme

If you are using an older version of Shaken Grid Premium and update to Version 2.0, you should regenerate your images using the “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin. This will resize your images to reflect the new image dimensions.

To download this update, use the original download link that was e-mailed to you when you made your purchase.

Ah very, very cool :) I really like how it looks on my android phone now. A major step in the right direction and better then any other solutions I tried to make my page look nice on a mobile phone. One tiny thing: The minimal post template looks odd on mobile phones: It first shows the pics, then the comments and then the text. Maybe that can be adjusted.

And what I love too is the new post layout. It’s awesome that the pic and the text are in the same box now. Better to read (especially if the text is a bit longer), looks nicer and a very nice improvement.

I’m really happy with Shaken Grid 2.0. Good job!

Thanks, Alexander! We will definitely be tweaking things as we move forward.

Err… ok, call me stupid, but I re-downloaded the original link from the email when I made purchased, uploaded it via wordpress ‘upload theme’, and failed. Many times. Pls help?

    • Sawyer Sep 19, 2011 at 12:06 pm #

If you are trying to update the theme through the WordPress admin, you’ll need to delete the theme first since it shares the same folder name, and then upload the updated version.

Can you please. please, please make an option to disable the “share” and “comment” rollovers? I know it’s possible to edit out the PHP, but would really love to see it as an option. Please?

    Great work otherwise.

    • Sawyer Sep 19, 2011 at 8:37 pm #

This actually is an option in the latest update, 2.0. There is now an option to disable the hover buttons.

      • jaz Sep 20, 2011 at 4:20 am #

Wow, that’s great news! Can we disable the Share and Comment buttons, but stil have Enlarge active? Thanks for your input.

      • jaz Sep 20, 2011 at 7:21 am #

Ok, just installed the theme update, and the only option is to disable all three buttons. So now clicking on the images on the homepage takes you to the single post page, and removes the option to enlarge them.

Can we please get an update that allows the enlarge button, but disables the share and comment? Thanks.

Love the new mobile dedicated look! this is a great addition to this theme – I’ve installed a test site with it to see how it works and since I use infinity scroll I can tell you right now it does not work out of the box like the setup details in the docs suggest.

I have a few wishes based on the use of this theme so far… I hope you will be able to address them now that the major release is out.

    • Sawyer Sep 21, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

The documentation actually states that the Infinite Scroll WordPress plugin isn’t compatible with the theme, and that you will need to manually install the plugin. Check the FAQ.

Hi Sawyer, thks for the tip. I tried to access the link again but saw that it’s hack?

    • Sawyer Sep 25, 2011 at 11:39 am #

Hi Pagan, ThemeGarden is working on getting that resolved. As a result, we have released our own shop early for making purchases of Shaken Grid through this site (http://shakenandstirredweb.com/theme/shaken-grid)

      • pagan Sep 28, 2011 at 9:21 am #

yep, purchased it already. Now I’ve successfully downloaded the updated grid, thanks!

How do you activate the mobile function? I purchased the 2,0 theme, but when I view it from my smart phone it looks the same as it does from a desktop computer.

    • Sawyer Oct 4, 2011 at 2:35 pm #

      Hi Natasha,

The mobile version is dependent upon the screen resolution, rather than the device it’s being viewed on. What phone are you using and what is it’s screen resolution? Right now, the mobile version goes into effect when the screen is smaller than 500px wide. It also requires a web browser that supports CSS3 Media Queries.

      • Natasha Oct 4, 2011 at 5:03 pm #

        Hi Sawyer,

        Thanks for your response.

I’m viewing it on my iPhone4 Safari browser, and I believe that’s 326 ppi, right? I can view your demo perfectly from my iPhone however, which is weird.

        • Sawyer Oct 4, 2011 at 8:23 pm #

Ah, okay so the demo is showing the mobile version however your site isn’t? What’s the URL of your website? If you’d like it to not be public, you can e-mail it to me.

          • Natasha Oct 6, 2011 at 1:17 pm #

I’ll take another look based on what you mentioned earlier, and if I can’t resolve it I’ll send you an email with the link. Thanks again!

I have lost my original download link from themegarden. Should I go through them to get it or is this something that you can help me with? Excellent theme btw.

    • Sawyer Oct 23, 2011 at 2:43 pm #

Hi William, I’ve forwarded the e-mail with the link in it to you. Let me know if you don’t receive it.

  10. Dime Oct 26, 2011 at 5:52 am #

    Hi, there dear S&S team
2.0 is really GREAT theme for WP
I’m new on web-design so may be my question is little bit stupid, but could you provide me an information on how to activate function shown in demo:
While pointing on any gallery image on home posts page 3 icons appears:
    -Share
    -Comment

    So my questions are:
    1. Wheather there is documentation on such a functionality ( somewhere on http://support.shakenandstirredweb.com/shaken-grid/ ?)
    2. How to add on more icon there with custom code (“Add to Basket?”)

    • Sawyer Oct 26, 2011 at 5:34 pm #

You need to set a featured image in order to have the buttons appear when the user hovers over the post image (this is covered in the FAQ section of the support site)

In order to add more icons, you’ll need to customize the code (includes/action-buttons.php)

    Hi there,

Great theme but I was wondering if there was a way to either remove the ‘filter’ button or add the ability to change the text on the button?

    Really appreciate your help :)

    • Sawyer Oct 27, 2011 at 8:37 pm #

Yup, you can disable the filters under the Theme Options (screenshot: http://d.pr/DkMC). You can change the text if you edit the code in loop.php

      • PixelsPencil Oct 31, 2011 at 9:24 am #

I think you might have misunderstood – I want to keep the filter options but remove the filter button so the filter options are always there?

Is there a way to do that? Would I need to remove some stuff from loop.php

        Many thanks :D

        • PixelsPencil Oct 31, 2011 at 9:26 am #

One more thing – in a future update would it be possible to have footer widgets – I really think it would be a good option to have on this theme :)

      • Sawyer Oct 31, 2011 at 12:27 pm #

        Yes, you’ll need to edit loop.php to remove that button from the code and edit js/script.js and remove $('#filtering-nav ul').hide();

  12. jc Oct 29, 2011 at 5:27 pm #

Hi. Is it possible to have multiple images / combination of images, videos, etc in one post and have control over the layout (e.g. some text then an image, more text, video, text etc…)? Thanks!

    • Sawyer Oct 30, 2011 at 5:04 pm #

      Yup, this is definitely possible.

  13. Schuyler Nov 8, 2011 at 9:26 pm #

Hello, great work with the theme. Is there a way to increase the size of the social network icons in the top right corner? They are so small. Thx!

  14. John Summerton Nov 17, 2011 at 5:00 am #

    Hi.
Great design and concept. I’ve not yet bought this yet but am seriously considering using Shaken Grid for an upcoming project.
    A couple of quick questions:
    1. Is it possible to add a large post image that spans 3 columns. Would this resize down in the same responsive manner
    2. What happens if you have a lot of posts. Is there pagination or do you limit the number of posts?
    3. Relating to the above question – Does the filtering only apply to the current (homepage posts).

    Hope these make sense. Thanks!

    • Sawyer Nov 18, 2011 at 5:31 pm #

Yes — to all of your questions :)

Regarding pagination, there are several different options available, including the ones you mentioned.
