Update: The Premium theme has been released, get it now!

The reception of our free WordPress theme, “Shaken Grid”, has been outstanding! It has been featured on many sites, including Mashable and Smashing Magazine, and has received a bounty of happy feedback. It has also received a plethora of feature requests and we hear you loud and clear.  That is why we have decided to develop a premium version of “Shaken Grid” and release it on a yet to be decided theme marketplace.

This is the BEST theme I’ve ever come across. It was so hard for me to actually share it. I want it all to myself.

Lucid, from the comments

Tell us what you want

Before we begin development, we want to hear what features you’d like to see in a premium version of this theme. Some features that are already on the to-do list are:

  • Comments
  • Theme options panel, allowing users to basically customize the entire look and feel of the theme without touching any code.
• Social sharing options (Twitter, Facebook, Digg, etc)
  • Polished design
  • Many more color-schemes

Let us know what you want to see in the premium version in the comments section!

yes, definitely all of the above.

  2. sehs Aug 10, 2010 at 3:20 am #

video posts support and supporting video thumbnail.

    • Sawyer Aug 10, 2010 at 10:14 pm #

Good idea — video support will definitely be in there.

  3. Happy Aug 14, 2010 at 3:56 pm #

Child themes would also be nice…maybe with different layout options.

  4. jaspeter Aug 14, 2010 at 4:31 pm #

Ditto on the features you’re planning to include. Especially the comments and sharing options. The other big thing I’d like to see is the featured image being included in the RSS feed. It’s frustrating that I need to pick between featuring the image nicely on the site or including it in the feed. Maybe there’s a solution I’m unaware of… but if not, that’d be a welcome addition to the premium version.

Also, what’s the ETA on that?

    • Sawyer Aug 14, 2010 at 5:01 pm #

I’ll look into the RSS feed – not sure why WordPress doesn’t include it by default..

ETA is end of the August or early September.

    • Sawyer Aug 31, 2010 at 7:03 pm #

Featured images will now be included in the RSS feed.

Here’s a teaser of the revamped hover state on feature images:

  6. knillas Aug 14, 2010 at 9:35 pm #

ability to generate the different .box classes that span two columns or three collumns? for extra wide images like Panoramas and/or just to highlight a post by consuming a larger space? =)

    Hi,

I wanted to know if its possible to fix the footer to stick in bottom no matter if the page height is too less.

I tried using some online css tips but none worked.

    please advise.

    thanks

    • Robson Mar 25, 2011 at 7:39 pm #

I’ll double that… The footer needs to stick to the bottom… Ex: O a category link where there are a small number of posts the footer gets in the way…

  8. Ed Aug 18, 2010 at 4:30 am #

1 Easy multiple galleries (using a lightbox) on the one page

2 Graphics are too overstated and clunky – the + on the photos for instance is too crude. An option to turn off shading/keylines around boxes

3 A centred layout – very important as left-aligned now looks weird on widescreens

    4 1080 width

  9. brian Aug 18, 2010 at 6:04 am #

I know it has nothing to do with your theme, but I would love a streamlined way to post from a mobile device and to make the image a featured image.

  10. Louise Aug 19, 2010 at 1:55 pm #

To be able to include a widget to the side without messing up the fluid layout!!

  11. Ahmed Mekki Aug 19, 2010 at 7:54 pm #

    Hello
I from you to add change the interface from LTR to RTL
for other language like Arabic , Frisian and Hebrew
so that it will make your version make large scale of selling

another thing if you can maker the footer or header changeability from twitter like take from my twitter account posts
last i love your free Version of “Shaken Grid”
so that i will love your Premium Version of “Shaken Grid”
    thanks

    • Sawyer Aug 20, 2010 at 4:37 pm #

      Hi Ahmed,
RTL support will definitely be included. Sorry about that!

  12. nik Aug 21, 2010 at 12:54 am #

A random post order would be amazing!

  13. nik Aug 21, 2010 at 12:56 am #

So would the ability to have it a single page, where the navigation calls a post and moves it to the top left automatically, so the contact would be just a post with a contact form in it, and when you click it the post is the first thing you see. it would be fantastic!

  14. Margaux Aug 22, 2010 at 9:33 am #

I can not wait! I love this theme (the free)
    for when it is about?

  15. Sawyer Aug 24, 2010 at 9:05 pm #

    Here’s the latest teaser: http://dribbble.com/shots/48850-Shaken-Grid

  16. Margaux Aug 25, 2010 at 1:14 pm #

Can you insert a design Twitter box in the theme that goes back the last tweet

    • Sawyer Aug 25, 2010 at 7:03 pm #

Not totally sure I understand what you are asking, but there are a ton of plugins that will add a Twitter widget to your sidebar, just do a quick search.

There will be a widget built into the Premium theme that will allow you to display your Tweets.

  18. Kabir Aug 27, 2010 at 5:43 pm #

I love what you are have done with the theme so far, so first a big thanks for getting it up and running.

I love the sound of all the things you will be adding so great work on that too.

I have a few things which i would love too see on the premium version. As i would love to have this theme as a blog, it would be perfect to have some blog attributes.

I really loved the Grid-a-licious theme by suprb before it decided not to work because it has a great interface look towards it. The only example i could find that it still works on is (www.reformrevolution.com)

Here is a link to 5 grid based wordpress templates and i would love if you took some attributes from each and add them to yours so that has all round great functionality.

    http://grid-based.com/?articles/2010/07/23/5-grid-based-wp-themes.html

One last requests would be to have editable header and footer.

Thanks for taking the time to read the requests, hope you take some into consideration.

    K

    • Sawyer Aug 28, 2010 at 8:52 pm #

Thanks for the suggestions – you will definitely see a lot more “blog attribute” options available, as well as a completely customizable theme without the need to touch any code.

  19. Aj Aug 28, 2010 at 4:14 pm #

I am pretty sure I have sent you quite a bit of traffic – any chance of a shout out as well ;)

  20. Tom Aug 29, 2010 at 6:29 pm #

Hi! I like the direction it has taken. Would it be possible to achieve the samme effect as seen on sommersethdesign.no? When you click an image/project, it takes you to another screen showing the project with a new fluid grid? Hope you understand what I mean.

    Cheers,

    Tom, Norway

  21. Petr Sep 1, 2010 at 6:26 pm #

Please add a date to each post! At least a option to add it! Thank you.

This is the greatest photo blog template I’ve ever seen!

If you add the comment and date feature it will be top class!

    Thanks

    • Sawyer Sep 1, 2010 at 11:29 pm #

Both features will be included in the premium theme. Thanks for the comments!

  22. ed Sep 2, 2010 at 3:24 am #

Nice theme. How about the ability to use a registration page as the front page of the theme? And registration options?

Thanxs, and keep up the great work

  23. Mikko Piippo Sep 2, 2010 at 10:37 am #

At the moment the free version seems to be more than enough for my needs. One thing I would like to pay the premium price is of course the removal of the footer link…

  24. Erhan Sep 4, 2010 at 1:12 pm #

    Hello,

I would like to see an ability to link blocks to certain pages like about or a gallery page.

And a block allowing a slideshow out of an gallery would also be cool..

these kind of features I would def. pay for.

    Thanks!

    • Erhan Sep 4, 2010 at 1:13 pm #

sorry for the spam, but what’s the status of the premium theme? =]

      • Sawyer Sep 6, 2010 at 1:17 pm #

I am currently waiting for the site, where I will be selling the theme to be completed (themegarden.com). Once it is launched, I will be submitting the Shaken Grid theme and it should be released soon after that.

        Thank you for everyone’s patience!

  25. Rosa Sep 7, 2010 at 4:53 pm #

    Hi Sawyer!

Great theme! I´m a designer and giving Shaken grid a try for my new web site. I´m running WP 3.0, today upgrading to 3.01 and the theme stated to be compatible with 3.0, but I keep getting long error lines everywhere and now where. Sometimes about old commands and sometimes just not understandable. There´s noway to edit the php-files either because there´s just error lines. Will there be a upgrade for the free version? Thanks man for taking the time : ) Hugs from Rosa

  26. lukas Sep 11, 2010 at 8:44 am #

When will the premium version be released?

    • Sawyer Sep 11, 2010 at 9:12 pm #

As soon as ThemeGarden.com launches, which should be in a week or two.

  27. akhyar Sep 15, 2010 at 7:17 am #

just add all those premium features into the free version :P
    no, just kidding ;)

i think it should be more tumblr-like theme :D

  28. danny Sep 15, 2010 at 7:28 am #

Hi there, one thing I´ve been missing in these fluid themes, and the reason I´m not using shaken grid right now is advertising, I would dig the option to add advertising amongst the posts like in the Coolzine theme. Also the option to play video directly in the front page or lightbox from the front page.
    Thanks!

  29. danny Sep 15, 2010 at 7:31 am #

OOps, I see you have implemented the video part, and multiple column widths, great stuff! If you can nail the advertising then I´m sold!

  30. Tim Sep 16, 2010 at 11:37 am #

Hi, fantastic work this, however how do you customize the logo?

    • Sawyer Sep 21, 2010 at 2:03 pm #

If you’re familiar with CSS and HTML, you can find the logo section in the header.php theme file. Otherwise, the ability to upload a custom logo is a feature of the premium version which will be released in the coming weeks.

  31. Phil ricketts Sep 17, 2010 at 9:21 am #

As there are no comments in your premium theme, I will add them myself to the free version and customise that to my needs.

If the premium version was devved by now, I would have bought it.

    Great work on the theme.

    Phil

    • Sawyer Sep 21, 2010 at 2:01 pm #

The premium theme is “devved”…I am waiting on the marketplace to be “devved” though.

  32. lukas Sep 22, 2010 at 5:29 pm #

    Hi Sawyer,

Can’t you release it on themeforest or somewhere else?

    • Sawyer Sep 22, 2010 at 5:50 pm #

I won’t be releasing it on Themeforest, mainly due to the business side of things (commission, etc). For example, theme creators only get around 40-50% commissions on their sales…compared to 100% on ThemeGarden…which should be ready by next week.

  33. Tom Sep 22, 2010 at 5:32 pm #

    Yeah!
Themeforest would be nice. We have an account there. Its the largest marketplace is it not?

    Cheers,

    Tom

  34. Tom Sep 24, 2010 at 10:13 am #

Just bought the premium version! Loving it. Could need some help to display tweets on the homepage tho…

    Good job!

    Tom
